A few of my New Year's resolutions are to be more active, run the half marathon at the Flying Pig and do more good in the world by giving back. I thought about organizations that were close to my heart and I decided that Melanoma Know More would be a perfect fundraising organization and is linked to the Flying Pig. For many of you, you well know that I lost my dad to Melanoma when I was a senior in high school. My dad played such an important role in my life and shaping me into the man that I am today. He was such a happy person and hard worker. He was an amazing father and always supportive of me and my dreams. I believe that I learned my work ethic, drive and happiness from him. I would not be the same person I am today if it was not for him. I think about him everyday and I have wanted to be a part of this organization for a long time. I know there are many other stories and people that have been impacted by Melanoma and I would love to hear about them.
From the work that I do, I see the positive impact a father's role plays in a son and daughters life. I have two amazing sons and I want to tell them about their grandfather so they know what an amazing person he was. I want to tell them about his love for family, cooking, golf and many other things. What better way for them to learn about their grandfather, then to see their daddy raising money and awareness in his name. I want to teach them the importance of kindness, giving back and volunteering for others. I hope that I can be just as supportive to my kids as my dad was to me and my sisters growing up. Lauren, my two sons and I will be walking the 5K in honor of my dad and all others affected by Melanoma. Lauren and I will be running for the half marathon on Sunday, May 5th and I will be thinking about him each mile.
Would you please join me in my support against Melanoma by donating or with your time on race day?!
